So yeah, we had to get towed today. Two weeks ago, I took my car in to get the coolant flushed. Yesterday as I was ready to head back home after the Braves shoot, my battery died. I talked to a cop who was guarding the parking lot and he called AAA who came out and jump started my battery. Very handy! This morning, I went in and picked up a new battery for my car. Buddy and I headed up to the Kangaroo Conservatory which is about an hour north of here. A few miles before we got there, he noticed smoke coming up from under my hood. I pulled over and popped the hood and it turned out to be steam from the radiator cooling system. The fluid was literally boiling away and the cap on top had popped off do to the pressure. We just watched as the fluid level dropped until it all boiled away. Buddy called up AAA who came to tow us back (after about a two hour wait for the tow truck to arrive).
Oh yeah, I got to ride in the back of a police car today! A cop drove by checking to see what was up and we told him the car broke down and asked if there was any sort of restaraunt nearby where we could get a bite to eat. He said there was a gas station about 2 or 3 miles down the road so we started walking. A second cop pulled up not even a minute later and also pulled over to see what was going on. We asked him for a ride to the gas station so we could get something to eat and some bottled water and he kindly gave us a ride. Boy is it cramped back there! There's a barrier that prevents you from accessing anything in the front and vertical jail-like bars over the windows. The door locks had been removed and you can't open the doors from inside the car. When we got to the gas station, he rolled down the back windows and we were able to snake our hands through the bars and open the doors. The looks on the people's faces around us were priceless! They thought we were escaping from the back of a police car as their jaws dropped and their eyes bugged out huge. It was hilarious!
And yeah, we got a ride back w/ the tow truck guy and my car is now back at Pep Boys. Let's hope they do a good job this time!
Update: It turns out it was a broken radiator cap. Whether they had previous damaged it isn't worth worrying about so let's not. =)
