Everyone loves seeing ppl lay out. =) AFDC Finals photos are up in the first five galleries.
I had the opportunity to shoot Braves fans once again today. It was loads of fun, yet again. You always find fun people in the crowd. One girl told me in perfect english that she didn't speak English and only spoke German so I asked to shoot her, in German, and she laughed and said okay. Another guy who I asked replied "We done already got our pi'ture taken!" The group of Dutch guys I met spoke great english. The Slovkians weren't quite as good though. heh. If you look at the photos, you'll notice that the stadium is in the background. I have them face me when I shoot so I have to keep an eye out for home runs or foul balls headed our way. As I was approaching a group, Francoeur blasted one into left field on the far end of the row I was on. A guy in blue barehanded the catch but dropped it and his friend picked it up and kept it. haha. Oh, as a bonus, you can actually see me! Check out the video near the top of this page. As the ball sails into left field, you'll see a guy in green in the aisle on the right side of the screen. That's me! =)
Speaking of media, I got there early and went down to check out where the TV ppl and photographers camp both behind home plate and next to the dugout. You know the little window right behind home plate? There's a camera right there and two audio dishes (whatever they're called) on either side of that window (which is actually the top of a door). It was really cool seeing all that.
Nikon's exposure and flash settings are different from Canon's. You'll see the effects of me trying out Nikon's iTTL system after getting used to Canon's E-TTL II. Long story short, Nikon's flashes are less automatic than I realized (or more likely, I just don't know how to use it properly) so I wound up shooting on manual exposure and metering the flash by eye and chimping to correct exposure. After a while, you get used to needing to increase the flash power when the subjects are in the shade, farther away, or have darker skin. Still though, it would be nice if it were automatic so I'll need to do some reading on how Nikon's flash metering works.
Whew. Alrighty. I'll be road tripping down to Florida Monday through Thursday so the next few updates will be from the road. C-ya!
