Ariel and Anna Pillow Fighting at Seattle Center

Ariel and Anna Pillow Fighting at Seattle Center

April 2, 2011 was International Pillow Fight Day. πŸ˜€ Hundreds (literally!) of cities around the world held a massive pillow fight in town. The one in Seattle happened on the grassy lawn next to the Space Needle downtown. Read on to watch some videos, see more pi’tchers (go faux southern accent!), and get in on the action. πŸ™‚

Alright, so after securing a parking spot near the needle and wondering how many people are gonna show up considering it’s a bit rainy (cuz ya know.. it’s Seattle and all…), we stroll on over to the meet-up area, excited to see lots of other people headed in the same direction, pillow in hand. πŸ˜€

All in all, there wound up being well over a hundred people for this event, and the majority of the beat-downs occurred towards the beginning when everyone still had energy. In the midst of a bunch of screaming and laughing and wallop’ing, and the occasional down feather ‘splosion that burst into the air, I decided to grab my camera, use my pillow as a helmet/shield, and walk through the center of the madness. Crazy!!

It was awesome to see people having such a great time, big kids and little kids, as well as even a few people who came in costume! Awesome…

After retreating to safety and glad that I got some footage to share with you guys, I put my pillow helmet back on and reentered the fray. πŸ˜‰

While taking a breather at one point, I happened to run into a friend back from college (yeah, from Georgia.. back on the other side of the country) who just happened to be in town for a few days and came over to the pillow fight. Small world! πŸ™‚ He offered to snap of a few pictures of Anna and me as we got our pillowy smackdown on. Thanks Justin!! πŸ™‚

Good times… πŸ™‚

After feeling thoroughly pumped and satisfied, we threw our pillows into the crowd, giving the rest of the peeps more ammo. πŸ˜‰

Heading on out of the arena, we found some other attempts at discarding dirty used pillows…

Finally after heading out of the area, we took a walk around Seattle Center, which it turns out is a pretty awesome place! Inside the main convention center type place, they have a bunch of restaurants, and they all looked so good! I literally want to eat from every place in there! They even have a place devoted totally to burgers and JUST burgers… YUM…

There was a Japanese festival going on so they had some peeps in kimonos and wooden shoes playing all these plingy Japanese sounding musical instruments. Go Japan!! πŸ™‚

The rain had let up after the pillow fight and the sun came back out. There’s a fountain there which reminds me of the olympic ring fountain at Centennial Park in Atlanta in that it’s fun to run down in it and try to dodge the fountain water blasts… Here it’s definitely something you’d want to do when it’s warmer, like closer in the summer time… Also since the fountain here is down in a bowl, it makes it harder to flee and run for freedom should you need to. :p

Great day. πŸ™‚
