Surfer going down

Surfer crashing

Surfing is really big here in California, as you might imagine. Roof racks, instead of being used for skis and snowboards, are used for surfboards. You’ll even see guys on bicycles holding the handlebars with one hand and cupping their arm around their surfboard with the other!

You wanna go see some surfing? Let’s go see some surfing!!

Tent camping along the coast of California

Tent camping along the coast of California

Los Angeles, this city can be BUSY! I mean the highways are all over the place, the traffic is packed, the drivers aren’t very friendly, lots of people are trying to “make it big” here, there’s a lot of ego and fakeness here, and so on. Sometimes you gotta go back into nature and retreat into silence. The mountain man in me definitely needs this is quality time outdoors…

So let’s go explore some of the parks around the Los Angeles area. 🙂

Snapping some pics before our first taping together

Snapping some pics before our first TV show taping together

So why am I in this town in the first place? Well in the previous post I briefly mentioned that I randomly met a woman on twitter who was creating her own spiritual TV show. She explained that she couldn’t sleep one evening and hopped on the computer. I had posted a video on youtube and youtube automatically posted it into my twitter feed. She happened to be up and saw the video, it totally resonated with her, she shot me a message, we were shortly on the phone and spoke for about two hours going back and forth as to what the both of us were doing. It turns out  I was a perfect fit to be the host for her new show, and while I’m not supposed to go into the details of the show itself too much quiiite yet, it’s basically a show devoted to spirituality, travel, and enlightenment! Woohoo!! Me likey!

Ariel at Zion National Park

Enjoying the view at Zion National Park, Utah

After spending two months in Colorado, with the original plan being to move to Boulder somewhere, I found a sense of completion arising, a sense of being done with this stage in my life and almost starting to grow bored with Colorado. What now? I’m on the other side of the country and I have no idea what to do next… It turns out that life continues to give us what we need when we need it, in some of the coolest ways! A 2 day journey of ~1,300 miles was ready to unfold… 🙂

Learning to self-arrest with an ice axe on St. Mary's Glacier, Colorado.

One thing  I’ve noticed is that with the adventures I’ve been going on lately is that it’s hard to cover everything in one single image as I tried to do on my old photoblog, or even in a series of images. It’s so much easier to do one collective post that supports multiple images with text in between, and so I’m switching to this WordPress blog instead which will be far more capable.

With that, let’s start off this inaugural post with my trip to St. Mary’s Glacier to learn about snow travel in the mountains of Colorado.
